Class Policies

CONTINUING MUSIC AT HOME
In our classes together, you will receive a lot of information.  One of my main tasks is to provide you with tools, resources and overall information to help your child grow and thrive, both in the classroom and at home.  Every child's response to different songs and activities is unique, so it will be your duty to use the songs and activities at home that your child responds to the most. By following their leads and repeating activities and songs, you will be furthering their development and appreciation for music in a lasting and enjoyable way.

BE SILLY!
Kindermusik classes offer the opportunity for adults to tap into their musical and silly side.  The activities used are specifically created for children, so keep in mind that your children are always watching you: the more you open up and become involved in the class, the more they will follow suit and become comfortable.  Doing this creates a relaxed and safe place to learn, explore emotions, and make musically-charged memories.

SHOES
Children learn through their senses, including touch/feel on the bottom of their feet.  Therefore, barefoot is best for sensory development.  We kindly ask that you remove your shoes once you enter the Hug-A-Bug Music room, but you may keep your socks on if desired.  Remember to dress comfortably and in layers, as we will be moving around the room, playing instruments and dancing.

BREAKS
If your child becomes overstimulated or needs a break, he/she can observe the activity quietly, or if need be, bring you back into the classroom.  I want every child to be in a calm and comfortable state of mind in order to ensure that optimal learning takes place.  You, as your child's caregiver, are the best person to judge your child's needs, so feel free to adapt accordingly during each lesson.

SNACKS
Please provide all snacks outside of the Hug-A-Bug Music room.  There is a bench swing outside of class and a few picnic tables in the courtyard of the Community Baptist Church that you may use.  Water and bottled milk are permitted, and breastfeeding is welcomed.

SIBLINGS
As a reminder, we ask that alternate care is acquired for siblings during your enrolled child's class time if possible.  Kindermusik classes place an emphasis on the 1:1 bonding that takes place between child and caregiver(s).  This is a special time reserved for you, your child, and any other adults in your child's life when the focus is completely on him or her.  Please talk with me if you have an infant.

HOME MATERIALS
Home materials will be distributed on the first day of class.  Anyone that enrolled after August 28th will receive their home materials on the second class day. Please utilize these materials to continue the music experience at home.  You will receive a digital copy of the music, and I encourage you to use your home CDs in your car.

MISSED CLASSES
Please let me know if you will need to miss a class for any reason.  Lessons are implemented in different ways contingent upon the number of children in the room, so please let me know as soon as possible.  Also, if your child has green mucous, is constantly coughing, has had a fever within 24 hours or is knowingly contagious, please inform me and stay home.  We will do our best to maintain a healthy environment, so please do your share by being considerate when your child is sick.  As a reminder, the 14th week will be a make-up week at the end of the semester.

FAMILY SHARING TIME [Imagine That! class only]
The Imagine That! curriculum differs from the younger curricula in that the adults are only present for a portion of the class.  The adults are asked to come back for the 2nd half to sing some songs, do some dancing, and go over activities to do at home.  We will be asking you to leave right before the "Hello Song".  When you leave, make it brief, pleasant, and reassure them that you will be back.  For the first few weeks, your child may want you to stay for longer, or even to stay for the entire class, which is perfectly fine. You are the best judge of your child's needs so do what works best for your family.

Lastly, please contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns at any time during the semester.  We are all in this together, and I'm so excited to work with you and your little ones!

    Stay up-to-date!
